Are Tires Recyclable?

Yes, tires ARE recyclable. Call your local tire retailer to find a local tire recycling center near you, or visit Earth911.org/recycling.

Recycled tire rubber can be found in many places, including highway sound barriers, playground equipment, athletic field turfs, carpet padding, shower tiles, railroad ties, and many more. It is also used as fuel ("Tire Derived Fuel" or TDF). According to the EPA, when incinerated tires produce the same amount of energy as oil and 25% more energy than coal.

There are also many ways you can upcycle your old tires.  A classic tire swing is always a good option (see the video below for a how-to), or you can make cute planter boxes for your garden. Or, if you're feeling really creative, try crocheting a doormat!
