Are Used Oil Containers Recyclable?
No, unfortunately used oil containers are NOT recyclable.
Oil containers are usually made from #2 plastic but they are not recyclable. This is because the oil residue in the can contaminates them and makes them hazardous. The best way to dispose of your plastic oil container is to drop it off at a local auto mechanic, lube center, or auto parts store. Most places that accept used oil will also accept the bottles the oil comes in.
There is not much you can do with the oil containers around the house, as far as reusing the oil containers, because of the contamination.
