As my son has gotten older, I've found that with an extra insert SmartiPants diapers work extremely well. I initially had a lot of problems with these diapers leaking (see first review below) when my son was small. Now that he's 2, after I put in an extra insert they work a lot better than BumGenius. Especially now that my son can rip open the velcro cloth diapers!
I don't know why these leaked so much when my son was small. But these are excellent toddler diapers and I'm bumping up my review to 4 stars. ... read more
I use this for almost all of my son's baths now and we absolutely love it. It gets super bubbly without having to use too much, it smells great (we have been using the calming lemon-lavender scent), and it keeps my son's sensitive skin nice and soft.
I stumbled upon this after looking for a less expensive green alternative to California Baby's Bubble Bath, which I really like but it's just so expensive. I noticed this huge bottle ($13.99 for 32 oz vs. California Baby's $10.99 for 13 oz.) and grabbed it immediately. I was already a fan of Everyday Shea's shampoos, so I couldn't wait to use this.... read more
I am a lip balm junkie. I've been a lip balm junkie since I was in kindergarten, and I imagine I will be for the rest of my life. Luckily, there are a lot more lip balm options than when I was a kid, and I don't have to resort to artifical-tasting and lip-drying Lip Smackers and Chapstick.
EO's lavender lip balm tastes natural and not overly perfumey, as it is made with a blend of essential oils instead of a concotion of mystery fragrances. It goes on smooth and helps even very chapped lips. It's definitely one of my favorite lip balms, and it's cheaper than many other certified organic lip balms that I've found.... read more
This is great hand soap. I love foaming soaps, and this one smells really good. It smells like good old fashioned essential oils, not weird "fragrances" or anything like that. Because of the aloe, it doesn't dry my skin out like many other types of soaps do.
The ingredients include many essential oils, organic herbs, organic tea, and organic aloe vera, and no sodium lauryl sulfate. ... read more
The Lunchopolis, by New Wave Enviro Products, is awesome. For only twenty bucks, you get an insulated lunch box, a beverage container, two small snack containers, and two larger containers which are good for sandwiches and whatnot.
While not as green as stainless steel food containers, they are BPA-free and reusable. They're also a lot cheaper than stainless steel options. They're sturdier than most inexpensive plastic containers and without a BPA plasticky smell.... read more
Last week I reviewed a detangler by EO Products. Like I mentioned in that review, I have difficult, unmanageable hair and the detangler helped a lot. EO's shampoo and conditioner also helped tame the unruliness. My hair feels uncharacterstically soft, easy to brush, and it's less of a frizzy mess. And I even see a little bit of a shine to it!... read more
I love this stuff! My hair is thick, wavy, frizzy, unruly, and often VERY hard to brush. It's also dry, so I don't wash it every day.
On the days I don't wash my hair, this detangler helps a great deal. It helps get the brush through my hair in the morning. It also helps smooth out the frizz and makes my hair look a little less unruly for at least a few hours. The lavender scent is pleasant, but not overwhelming or artificial smelling. ... read more
These reusable produce bags are awesome. I had been on the look-out for mesh produce bags for a while, and I was so excited to find them at my local Star Market.
A lot of people -- even greenies -- don't think about purchasing reusable bags specifically for produce. In an effort to reduce plastic use in our lives, reusable produce bags can make a big difference. ... read more
We recently got our first Easy Fit Diaper by Tots Bots from ThanksMama.com. I loved the cute star pattern and how trim it was compared to most of our other cloth diapers. I also thought that it was very cool that the liner was attached to the diaper, so you just need to stuff it right in.
Unfortunately, within a half hour, my son was absolutely drenched. It had leaked like crazy. I thought maybe it was a fluke, but it happened a few more times. Then I started stuffing it with an extra soaker...and it now works great. Leaks less than our old BumGeniuses (which are not holding up so well after a year and a half of use, btw) and Smartipants, too. Even with the extra soaker, it's far less bulky than most cloth diapers. ... read more
Clean + Green's Furniture Refresher works very well. It helps remove those pet smells as well as pet stains. I love that it gets rid of pet odors without any gross overpowering artificial smells. (I'm looking at you, Febreeze!!! You're gross!)
You can use it on pet beds, pillows, plastic, leather, etc. I used it on my leather sofa and it didn't leave a residue or didn't discolor the couch. You don't need to scrub or rinse anything afterwards, so it's incredibly easy to use.
The can is recyclable and ozone safe. The ingredients are non-toxic, biodegradable, and non-carcinogenic, unlike many of the alternatives. ... read more
