Green Company Profile: Pure Play Kids

Why they're Keen:

No more annoying kids toys that light up and play obnoxious music. (...and the parents sigh a breath of relief! I know there are only so many times I can listen to my son’s toys play “When You’re Happy and You Know It!”) The kid-powered toys at Pure Play Kids allow kids use their own imaginations and creativity. The toys are durable, safe, and non-toxic. They also don’t market to kids through advertising, licensed characters, film tie-ins, etc. The products are made in the USA or Europe.

From baby toys such as rattles, to puppets, wagons, and costumes for older kids, there is something for everybody! The toys are truly classic.

Why they're Green:

Since they’re so durable and made of wood, these toys can last for generations as opposed to getting broken and tossed into a landfill. Even better: many of the toys are wooden, recycled or made of other natural products. That way if your little one is in the midst of that “everything must go in the mouth!” phase, like mine is, you don’t have to worry that something toxic is going into the mouth.... read more

Why its Keen:

ChicoBag has a very inspirational start-up story: "In early 2004, Andy Keller, now ChicoBag™ president, took a trip to his local landfill after spending the day landscaping his backyard. He was horrified by what he saw. Single-use bags were the dominant article at the landfill that day, blanketing the landscape in a thin mix of white and beige plastic. On his way home he began to notice plastic bags everywhere, caught in trees and on fence posts, half drowned in gutter puddles and blowing in the streets like urban tumbleweeds. That day Andy vowed to stop using single-use bags. Inspired, Andy dropped a few bucks on a second hand sewing machine and began sewing what would ultimately become the first ChicoBag™ brand reusable bag."... read more

Green Company Profile: Zaum

Why they're Keen:

Zaum was founded in 2003. Aside from offering interactive and graphic design services, they also sell handmade purses, wallets, laptop bags, and more.

They launched their eco line 3 years ago.  The founders of Zaum began to be more “green” in their daily lives, so it made perfect sense to incorporate it into their work.  They wanted to bring unique, fun, and vibrant products into the green fashion community.

Why they're Green:

Their eco-friendly products use three different types of materials: printed organic cotton, solid colored organic cotton, and heavy wool felt. Both kinds of cotton are 100% organic and the printed cotton uses non-toxic pigments. ... read more
