Turning Household Items into Beauty Products

Going green doesn’t have to be limited to recycling as many products as possible or making sure to turn off lights and electronics as soon as you leave the room. While these are great ways to lessen your carbon footprint, you can also incorporate some easy changes to your beauty routine to help lessen your environmental impact and also save some money. The next time you’re about to buy new beauty products try making these at home instead:

1.      Honey and milk facial cleanser
Despite what manufacturers want you to think, you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a good facial cleanser. In fact, you don’t need to go any further than your kitchen. By combining milk and honey you will be able to cleanse and moisturize your skin naturally, and you only need a tablespoon of milk and a teaspoon of honey to make a good cleanser. Just heat the honey until it’s not as thick, mix with the milk until you have a creamy mixture, and apply accordingly.

Egg yolks and olive oil hair mask

Strengthening up your tresses is easy as can be with the help of a little olive oil and egg yolk mixture. Warm up some olive oil and mix with an egg yolk and then massage the mixture into dry hair. Let it sit for half an hour, then rinse out with shampoo. You’ll have healthier hair in no time.

3.      Condition hair with mayonnaise

Apply mayonnaise to wet hair after shampooing for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour in place of conditioner for an easy at home conditioning treatment. Because the mayonnaise contains eggs and oils it helps hydrate and revive your hair, leaving it silky and vibrant.

4.      Homemade hand sanitizer

You don’t have to buy the store brand hand sanitizers to be germ free. Instead you just need to combine some Aloe Vera with rubbing alcohol to get the same sanitizing effect. Use 2/3 cup rubbing alcohol and 1/3 cup Aloe Vera, and if you want a scented sanitizer then add in your favorite form of essential oil for a more satisfying smell.

5.      Tame flyaways

If you’re running late and don’t have time to wash your hair but still need to tame crazy flyaways then run a dryer sheet over it. It will help calm down your hair and give it a fresher scent so that no one will be wise to the fact that you didn’t just wash it. This is also good for getting rid of static clean or picking up pet hair that may be clinging to your clothes.

Since most of us have these household products on hand at any given time anyway they make a great substitution to buying any additional beauty products. Buying less products is a win-win situation; you spend less money and you go a new green direction.
