Home Farming Day is April 12
Triscuit (yes, those yummy little crackers!) has proclaimed Tuesday, April 12, 2011 Home Farming Day, with events in NYC, LA, and Tampa.
Triscuit launched a new social network, Home Farming, helping people start their own home farm. Members can share photos, receive badges a la FourSquare, and ask and answer questions about growing your own food. The site also has lots of tips for growing veggies in your backyard and even recipes, too!
There's also a sweepstakes to win $1000 towards your farm.
In addition to launching the Home Farming website, to celebrate Home Farming Day, Triscuit is:
- Working with Urban Farming, a non-profit orginzation devoting to growing food on unused land and plant 65 community-based farms around the country.
- Doubling the number of Triscuit boxes with seed cards for planting basil and dill.
Even if you don't live in a city with Home Farming Day events, consider celebrating it on your own. Start planning out your garden if you live somewhere that you can't garden year-round. Go to your local nursery and buy some seeds (or order some online), and begin your seedlings inside.
