Enterprise Servers are Now Energy Savers

Energy Star, a division of the EPA highlighting enerfy efficent machines, is expanding into the area of servers.  According to Infoworld, Energy Star is seeking to include enterprise servers into their portfolio of machines, including microwaves and refrigarators.   The new specification will covers servers with up to four processor sockets and at least one hard drive.

This is only possibly because of loggying by such groups as the Green Grid.  The Green Grid is an organization to halt the server energy wast through the publication of "best practices" documentation and the creation of tools to effectively measure power consumption--should make a dramatic difference in the next few years.

The new standards for servers should be out by January 1, 2010 so keep your eyes out for more news about this cutting edge effort.
