On April 22, 2009 the world will celebrate Earth Day. This holiday was first created in 1969 by enviormentalist and peace activist John McConnell. The day was a world-wide celebration to increase awareness of enviormental issues. Throughout its history Earth Day has done just this. From over-population concerns in the 1970's to the ozone layer in the 1980's to greenhouse gases currently, Earh Day has been a day informing the world of these impending enviormental catastrophes.
Earh Day is also a day of action. One should try to act in such a way to aid the enviorment and make existence more sustainable. Are you stumped on what to do or what events are taking place in your neighborhood? Take a gander at Earhday Networks website. The mission of Earhday Network is to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide, and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable environment. We pursue our mission through a combination of education, public policy, and consumer activism campaigns. You will find many great ideas there and events happening accross the country, if not the world.
So what are you doing for Earth Day? Please let us know in the comment sections below and remember that every day is earth day for those of us keen for green.
