PG&E recently signed one of the largest solar energy deals with a young Oakland start-up. BrightSource Energy of Oakland will build seven solar power plants for PG&E in southern California. These plants will produce enough energy to power 533,000 homes.
Earlier this year, BrightSource Energy signed an agreement to supply 1,300 megawatts of electricity to Southern California Edison which was considered the largest in the world. This new deal tops it.
The first plant should open by 2012 at the Ivanpah dry lake bed in San Bernardino County. This is all being done to confirm to the aw requires the state's electrical utilities to get 20 percent of their power from renewable sources by the end of 2010.
