California Solar Initiative Solar Thermal Rebate Program
I recently wrote an article about the California Solar Initiative rebate incentive program, focusing on the “general market program” for PV solar installation. One of the other programs under the CSI umbrella is the Solar Thermal Hot Water program.
The rebate program, enacted in 2007, is designed to increase solar power by 3,000 megawatts by the year 2017. There are several types of solar thermal hot water heaters, most of which are placed on the rooftop. Hot water naturally rises up, where it is heated using solar energy.
California's CSI Solar Thermal Program offers cash rebates up to $1,875 per single family home and up to $500,000 for multifamily and commercial properties.
In order to qualify, you must receive gas and electric from PG&E, SCE, SoCalGas, or SDE&G. The heating system installed must have a Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC) OG-300 rating for single-family, and OG-100 for multi-family/commercial properties.
Most solar thermal heating systems will also qualify for California's Cash for Appliances rebate program. This program is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (aka the Stimulus) and provides up to $750 in rebate.
